Welcome to the ABSN Option
Description of the Accelerated BSN (ABSN) Entry Option
We are excited you are considering North Carolina A&T School of Nursing to pursue a dynamic career in nursing!
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Entry Option is designed for second degree students who are high level achievers and desire to pursue a career as a professional registered nurse. The ABSN Entry Option curriculum is delivered in block format over 12 months (January to December). The course work is very intense and rigorous. Students should plan to commit an average of 28-32 contact hours per week for classes, virtual learning labs and clinicals. This entry option is designed for full-time study Monday through Friday and may also include nights and weekends. Therefore, it is expected that students do not work during this year of study and preparation for the NCLEX-RN, the licensing exam for registered nurses.
Plan of Study and Degree Requirements
Prospective students complete 27 hours of prerequisite courses prior to admission to the option. Prerequisite courses may be taken through any accredited community college, college, or university. It is advised that students contact the North Carolina A & T State University Admissions office at (336)334-7946 before taking a course to confirm equivalency of the course. The second degree student enrolled in the ABSN Entry option will complete 64 hours in the nursing curriculum towards the 124 hours required for graduation. Admission is a very competitive process and the entire academic record is reviewed.
