Features that Characterize the Leadership Studies PhD Program:

The Interdisciplinary PhD - The interdisciplinary nature of the PhD in Leadership Studies allows for professionals and scholars from a diversity of disciplines to come together in scholarly inquiry, social learning, problem solving and leadership development. Through these activities, interdisciplinary engagement allows for the generation of new systems of knowledge, integrative practice, complex systems analysis, and the generation of innovative knowledge systems.

Innovation - The Leadership Studies PhD program is committed to exploring new ways to generate innovative systems of knowledge, professional practice, personal development, products and services, and societal engagement.

Engagement - The Department of Leadership Studies is committed to working with partners from business and industry, public and non-profit organizations, as well as scholars and practitioners across disciplines. It is through these rich and robust relationships that Leadership Studies has been present and in-service to local, regional and global education, economic development, health, business, and civic organizations. Our faculty and students regularly make scholarly and professional contributions in these leadership contexts.

Eminent Leaders - Eminent Leaders are featured in speaker series, roundtables, and coursework will bring relevant perspectives to the core curriculum in the classroom and as mentors. In addition, their experiences will galvanize the students' paradigm of leadership.

The Internship - The internship is an opportunity for students to learn and grow outside of the classroom. The internship is designed to provide opportunities to develop leadership competencies and/or scholarly engagement in a practical settings.

Dissertation Research - The dissertation requires students to identify and pursue a topic of inquiry that will advance their skills as a scholar and build on the body of scholarly work in the breadth of leadership inquiry.

The Center for Creative Leadership - The Center for Creative Leadership has been a partner from the inception of the Leadership Studies PhD program. It is internationally recognized for the production of research on leadership and leadership development training across sectors of industry and society. Our partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership provides students with opportunities to investigate current research topics, a pool of highly accomplished adjunct faculty, access to one of the largest library holdings on leadership, and internship opportunities.
