Welcome to the School of Business and Economics (SOBE) at North Carolina A&T State University. We invite you to fully explore the School’s academic and co-curricular programs, facilities, and other resources that emphasize our focus on excellence.
Our business and accounting programs are accredited by AACSB International -- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business -- the premier accrediting agency for academic programs in management education. Of the estimated 15,679 schools offering business programs globally at the bachelor level or higher, we are among fewer than 700 business schools around the world that have AACSB accreditation. Similarly, we have the distinction of being among 179 business schools world-wide that earned an additional specialized AACSB accreditation for our Accounting program. As a result, it is expected that we maintain the highest standards of excellence; and we are firmly committed to this goal. To this end, the process of assessing and continuously improving our academic programs, to ensure that our graduates are highly competitive at a global level, is ongoing.
The school occupies Craig Hall and Merrick Hall, modern and technologically enhanced facilities with a state-of-the-art financial trading room, and several special purpose instructional computer labs. Every classroom is equipped with the most current teaching resources and technology to support active and engaging learning experiences. These facilities accentuate a learner-centered environment and provide students with opportunities for relevant, interdisciplinary, and team-based learning. Craig Hall is a tribute to our legendary, pioneering and recently retired Dean, Dr. Quiester Craig. His 41 years of service is the longest served by any business school dean in the country. In addition to building an outstanding business school with a national and international reputation, his tenure is marked by many accomplishments including being the first and only African-American dean to serve as President of AACSB International and Chair of Beta Gamma Sigma- an Honor Society for AACSB accredited Business schools. He has mentored many students who have become outstanding leaders in their professions.
As you review our website, you will observe that our faculty is among the most diverse and highly qualified business school faculty in the country. They have studied at, and earned their degrees from, prestigious and highly reputable universities around the world. They are productive scholars and practitioners of their disciplines who demonstrate their commitment to quality learning and overall student development by their preparation, accessibility, and encouragement.
The importance of ethical decision-making is emphasized throughout the program of study in every major. Rigorous curriculum requirements and small to medium class sizes afford students the opportunity to build communication, technological, critical thinking and problem-solving competencies. In addition, students receive invaluable experiences in planning, team-building, and leadership from very active student organizations.
We are very proud of our graduates who are recruited by top regional, national, and international organizations/corporations. Many of our graduates often continue their education at prestigious graduate and professional schools. Alumni hold significant positions of leadership in business, industry, and the government. They serve as role models and mentors to our students; and provide financial and other support for the success of the School.
