Child Development Early Education and Family Studies
The Child Development Early Education and Family Studies Program (CDFS) includes immersion in the disciplines of child development, early education, and early childhood special education. Program curriculums are focused on theoretical and ecological work with young children within a broad context of families, socio-cultural networks, communities, and society influences.
Opportunities are provided for students to develop knowledge, skills, and dispositions in interdisciplinary coursework preparatory for work with young children and families from diverse cultural, ethnic, ability, and linguistic backgrounds. Students will take courses in psychology, sociology, elementary education, speech/language and communication, special education, foreign language, business, health and physical education.
Additionally, students will observe and participate in “real life” field based experiences with young children and families in a variety of settings such as, but not limited to the NC A&T Child Development Laboratory, as well as public and private infant/toddler and preschool programs, kindergarten programs, community childcare centers, family centers, social service programs, childcare service agencies, and early intervention programs.
