Laboratory Animal Science
Laboratory Animal Science is an excellent pathway to professional and graduate school. The Program fully prepares you for admission to schools of veterinary medicine where you would work toward the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, or for admission to ther medical schools for the Doctor of Medicine (MD), the Doctor of Denistry (DDS), or others. You would also be fully qualified to enter graduate school to work toward an advanced degree, especially if you are interested in a research career in one of the biomedical or related areas.If you decide after graduation from college that you will not go on to veterinary school (at least not immediately), your employment chances are very good to work as a lab animal facilities manager, biomedical research technician or laboratory animal science technician, among other professions.
What is Laboratory Animal Science?
It's a fascinating relatively new field of applied science which deals with the biology of animal models used in biomedical research and their relationships to man and other animal species in regard to health and protection. It offers career opportunities for you in the pharmaceutical industry, in government regulatory agencies, and in research and development organizations. It may also serve you especially well as a pre-veterinary medicine program as well as an entry pathway to graduate school for advanced studies in health-related areas.

Admission requirements for high school graduates:
- 4 units of English
- 3 units of math (algebra 1 and 2, and geometry)
- 2 units of social studies (U.S. history and one elective)
- 3 units of science (one with a lab) - one life science, one physical science and one elective
- (recommended) 2 units of foreign language
