Welcome to Industrial and Systems Engineering

We live in a complex and tightly-coupled world where many different parts have to work together for successful outcomes. Solutions to the grand challenges in engineering have one thing in common – they can only be found by teams with significant involvement of industrial and systems engineers. By reviewing the grand challenges, you will quickly realize that someone has to design, integrate, and evaluate these systems. You will also realize that these systems are operated by all types of people with varying capabilities, training, world views, and resources. Industrial and systems engineers are essential to integrating people, technology, organizations, environments, processes, and work systems to ensure effective and efficient outcomes. Fundamentally, we are the ones who MUST see the forest AND the trees throughout the conceptualization and life cycle of all kinds of systems. So, let’s ‘TURN UP’ ISE!
