Description of Program
Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) is inherently interdisciplinary, requiring expertise in advanced computing technology as well as in one or more applied disciplines. The purpose of the CSE program at the North Carolina A&T State University is to foster interdisciplinary, computationally oriented research among all fields of science, engineering, technology and business and to prepare students to work effectively in such environments.
The aim of this program is for students to (a) acquire computational modeling, simulation and visualization skills; (b) master high performance computer programming tools as well as data acquisition and processing techniques; (c) relate acquired computational science and engineering knowledge and skills to specific application fields of science, engineering, technology and business/economics; and (d) learn to develop novel and robust computational tools and methods to solve scientific, engineering, technological or business/economics problems.
At the dawn of the 21st century, computational and data management infrastructure has become a first-class tool for science and engineering. Some of the most difficult problems in science are being addressed by the integration of computation and science -- computational science. The next decade in computational science promises to enable fundamental advances in biology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and a host of disciplines through the coordination of computation, data management, access to instrumentation, knowledge synthesis, and the use of new devices.
Graduate Catalog for CSE students admitted prior to Fall 2012: This catalog is available only to students admitted to the M.S. or Ph.D. CSE programs prior to Fall 2012. These students have the option to graduate under the subsequent catalog, effective Fall 2012.
Graduate Catalog effective since Fall 2012: This catalog is available to students admitted to the M.S. or Ph.D. CSE programs for Fall 2012 and later, as well to students admitted prior to Fall 2012.
Please recall that a student admitted under one catalog may elect to graduate under a subsequent catalog.
