Diversity

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is a public, high research activity, 1890 land-grant university committed to exemplary teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service. The University offers degrees at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels and has a commitment to excellence in a comprehensive range of academic disciplines. Our unique legacy and educational philosophy provide students with a broad range of experiences that foster transformation and leadership for a dynamic and global society.

The College is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for all students. There are resources across the campus and in the College for multicultural and female students.

North Carolina A&T is proud of the fact that it is a leading national producer of B.S. degrees in engineering among women of all races and backgrounds.  Indeed, the percentage of undergraduate female engineering students at North Carolina A&T is almost twice that of the average percentage of undergraduate female engineering students in colleges and universities throughout the nation.  The campus chapter of the Society of Women Engineers has grown exponentially in the last few years and this strong chapter is involved in a wide variety of exciting and challenging activities.

The university and the College of Engineering, in particular, have also been actively recruiting students from a wide range of backgrounds through new articulation agreements with nearby community colleges.  The state of North Carolina is 2nd in the nation in the number of state-wide community colleges and thus, opportunities continue to abound for increasing participation of all kinds of students in the College of Engineering (community colleges have an “open door” admission policy throughout the state and those who meet the appropriate criteria may transfer to North Carolina A&T and the College of Engineering at North Carolina A&T).

The number of Hispanic undergraduate engineering students is also increasing at North Carolina A&T and the College of Engineering is proud to announce that it now has a very active chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
