The primary goals of the History Department are to foster students' aspirations, to cultivate intellectual curiosity, and to prepare graduates for successful careers. Departmental courses are designed to develop skills in written and oral communication, ethical reasoning, critical thinking, intercultural and global awareness, and scholarly research. The department’s rigorous curriculum promotes the development of reason, an understanding of the past, and reflective inquiry to inspire informed, engaged citizens.
What We Offer
We offer undergraduate degrees in History, History Education, and Liberal Studies: Pre-law as well as minors in History, Philosophy, Military Leadership, and African American/African History. Our graduate program offers a degree in History Education (Master of Arts in Teaching). In addition to history courses, we offer courses in philosophy and geography.

The University of North Carolina Board of Governors recently approved a new Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology at N.C. A&T State University.
In the second annual ranking, the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) ranked N.C. A&T’s teacher preparation programs among the top in the state.
