A&T Preeminence: Taking the Momentum to 2023

 
Like A&T Preeminence 2020 before it, Preeminence 2023 provides the structure to convert our aspirations into realities.


Building on the successes and momentum of a strategic planning process that began in 2011, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University leaders have unveiled a refreshed plan that charts a bold course for the next five years. “A&T Preeminence: Taking the Momentum to 2023” reflects the early attainment of multiple goals from the previous strategic plan, takes into account changing environmental factors and recognizes opportunities that lie within the university’s grasp.    

Preeminence 2023 is the result of more than a year of discussions, information gathering, input, measurement and analysis by university leadership, faculty, staff, students, community and local government leaders and the University of North Carolina System. It expresses a revised mission, vision and core values for A&T, as well as reimagined goals and A&T strategies approved by the North Carolina A&T Board of Trustees in the summer of 2018 that will serve as the university’s roadmap going forward.

North Carolina A&T’s strategic plan focus has proven transformative over the past seven years. During that time, A&T has grown to become the nation’s largest historically black university, setting institutional records in 2017-18 in both enrollment and academic profile of the entering freshman class. That year’s undergraduate enrollment of 10,341 exceeded the goal of the previous strategic plan three years ahead of schedule, as did the entering class’s average GPA of 3.51.

The university’s aspirations for the coming give years include greater performance in graduation rates, retention and other measures of student success, growth in interdisciplinary, collaborative research and entrepreneurial innovation and new standards of public service and community engagement. A&T’s progress will be further marked by development of a more diverse and inclusive culture and gains in operational effectiveness and efficiencies.

Like A&T Preeminence 2020 before it, Preeminence 2023 provides the structure to convert our aspirations into realities. It also establishes key metrics that will enable ongoing measurement of progress. As the university has done for the past seven years, it will continue to consistently disclose that progress to ensure both transparency and accountability. 

  • Goal 1: North Carolina A&T will commit to excellence in teaching, research and student success.
  • Goal 2: North Carolina A&T will cultivate an intellectual climate that encourages the creative exchange of ideas and raises the quality of the professional environment.
  • Goal 3: North Carolina A&T will elevate and expand public service and community engagement to create a premier educational experience that addresses global needs.
  • Goal 4:  North Carolina A&T will excel in resource stewardship, operational effectiveness and efficiencies.
  • Goal 5:  North Carolina A&T will strengthen our campus community by fostering a more diverse and inclusive culture.
