8/25	Read Chapter 2--Demographic and Social Changes, *The Changing Dimensions of Business Education* (1997 Bus. Ed. Yearbook), pp. 17-29. Be prepared to discuss the implications of societal changes on business education. Find and bring to class one more article (paper or electronic) that address the impact of societal changes on workforce preparation, trends in business education, trends in business careers, or trends/innovations in business teacher education.
8/30	Prepare a personal (letter size) poster of your teaching philosophy--something that you can place on your office wall as a constant reminder.
9/1	Prepare a bibliography of at least 7 recent articles which will help you be an effective business educator. Provide complete references, using APA style. Be prepared to share the article that had the greatest impact on you.
9/8	Review the North Carolina Basic and Expanded Computer Competencies provided and identify the those with which you need assistance. Visit the School of Education Web site and review the Web-based course for the basic competencies. If necessary, revise the list of competencies for which you require further training. E-mail me your list of basic competencies in which you need training, by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 1998.
9/13	Demonstrate your computer skills by reproducing a newsletter/brochure that includes typical dtp features such as textboxes, rotated text, shading, graphic boxes, columns, bullets, grouping, lines, fonts, etc.
9/15	Read Calhoun, Chapter 5 and review the State of North Carolina curriculum guide (Standard Course of Study) for one business education course of your choice. Several are available in my office. They are huge! Give yourself some time.
9/20	Browse the Internet and find current information about VOCATs as you prepare for our guest lecture. Have your questions ready.
9/22	Find a working definition of Competency-based instruction. Find some arguments for and against competency-based instruction or make a list of advantages and disadvantages.
9/29	Prepare a handwritten gradebook for a fictitious group of 10 students. Include a variety of activities with the scores students received. This will form the basis of the electronic gradebook.
10/06	a. Grade the assignments completed by members of your fictitious class. Apply the scoring system provided and assign each student the score earned. b. Add these scores, and the others provided, to your electronic gradebook (started on 9/30) and update. Provide a grade for each student, based on the scale used for this class (see course outline).
11/3	Review current literature on School to Work Transition and discuss some of the major issues and some of the opionions for and against STW.
11/10	Team with a student from Math Education, English Education, or Science Education to prepare three or four activities that can be used in business education courses to integrate academics into business education classes. Start early. This activity will require at least two weeks' work. Typed activities due no later than 11/16.
11/22	Compile a comprehensive list of Internet resources that can be used in several of your business education courses. List the activities under the related coures.
12/1	Major Project Present to the class a short activity intended to support your recruitment efforts (to encourage high school juniors and seniors to consider business education/administrative systems as college majors). Must demonstrate excellent preparation, writing, layout, and effective use of state-of-the-art technology. May be an electronic presentation, a video, a something equally creative. The product is due at the time of presentation.

Your Technology Portfolio should contain examples of the following:

Lesson Plans that clearly state the computer skills that students should learn--grade appropriate.
List of school media (eg. television) resources that support instruction in business education--computer skills. List of DPI resources to be included.
Lesson Plans that include the use of instructional TV resources (2 or 3 examples).
Sample tests and other authentic assessment tools that measure learning via school television resources.
List of URL's, with annotations, to support computer skills.
Electronic resource bank of telecommunication resources/materials.
Matrix that correlates telecommunication resources to standard course of study.
Lesson Plans to integrate computer skills into other curricular objectives/content.
Lesson Plans covering computer competencies, with available computer resources.
Videotaped lesson covering computer competencies.
Lesson Plan supported by handout(s) or other material--covering computer skills.
Computer skills test including released items and teacher created items--grade level specific.
Test including items that measure computer skills taught in other courses such as math, social studies, science, etc.
Teacher made test items that measure computer skills.
List of software resources for an appropriate grade/subject area.
List of videodisks for an appropriate grade/subject area.
