Changing Dimensions of Business Education (1997 Bus. Ed. Yearbook), pp.
17-29. Be prepared to discuss the implications of societal changes on business
education. Find and bring to class one more article (paper or electronic) that address the impact of societal changes on workforce preparation, trends in business education, trends in business careers, or trends/innovations in business teacher education. |

| 9/1 | Prepare a bibliography of at least 7 recent articles which will help you be an effective business educator. Provide complete references, using APA style. Be prepared to share the article that had the greatest impact on you. |
| 9/8 | Review the North Carolina Basic and Expanded Computer Competencies provided and identify the those with which you need assistance. Visit the School of Education Web site and review the Web-based course for the basic competencies. If necessary, revise the list of competencies for which you require further training. E-mail me your list of basic competencies in which you need training, by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 1998. |

| 9/15 | Read Calhoun, Chapter 5 and review the State of North Carolina curriculum guide (Standard Course of Study) for one business education course of your choice. Several are available in my office. They are huge! Give yourself some time. |
| 9/20 | Browse the Internet and find current information about VOCATs as you prepare for our guest lecture. Have your questions ready. |
| 9/22 | Find a working definition of Competency-based instruction. Find some arguments for and against competency-based instruction or make a list of advantages and disadvantages. |
| 9/29 | Prepare a handwritten gradebook for a fictitious group of 10 students. Include a variety of activities with the scores students received. This will form the basis of the electronic gradebook. |
| 10/06 | a. Grade the assignments completed by members of your
fictitious class. Apply the scoring system provided and assign each student the
score earned. b. Add these scores, and the others provided, to your electronic gradebook (started on 9/30) and update. Provide a grade for each student, based on the scale used for this class (see course outline). |
| 11/3 | Review current literature on School to Work Transition and discuss some of the major issues and some of the opionions for and against STW. |

Science Education to prepare three or four activities that can be used in business

| 12/1 | Major Project Present to the class a short activity intended to support your recruitment efforts (to encourage high school juniors and seniors to consider business education/administrative systems as college majors). Must demonstrate excellent preparation, writing, layout, and effective use of state-of-the-art technology. May be an electronic presentation, a video, a something equally creative. The product is due at the time of presentation. |
