North Carolina A&T State University receives a plaque from the American Honda Motor Company for being selected to participate in the annual Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase, to be held on Jan. 24, 2009.

Michael Joseph RobertoMichael Joseph Roberto, assistant professor of history, has been appointed to the Greensboro Human Relations Commission by the City Council for a three-year term.The position was offered to Roberto for demonstrating a positive influence with IMPACT Greensboro, which will make a public report on the city's economic life in November. IMPACT Greensboro, a unique leadership program that reflects are design of the Mosaic project, launched in 2005 to pair people of diverse backgrounds to spend quality time together and develop friendships.

Anjail Rashida AhmadAnjail Rashida Ahmad, assistant professor and director of creative writing, has been selected to serve on the Piedmont Laureate Selection Panel for the first ever Piedmont Laureate Program for the Piedmont Region. This initiative is the result of a collaboration between the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, Durham Arts Council, Orange County Arts Commission and United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. The program lists as its primary goal "to promote awareness and high-end appreciation for excellence for the arts in the Piedmont region."

Zerihun Assefa, associate professor in the department of chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, has co-authored a peer reviewed journal article, "Magnetic interactions in dimeric lanthanide iodates: Structures, Raman Spectroscopy and magnetism of Ln(IO3)3 (Ln = Gd, Er) and magnetism of Yb(IO3)3." The manuscript is published in the Journal of Solid State Chemistry , 181 (2008) 1867-1875. Scientists from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of South Alabama collaborated on the manuscript.
