      • Ms. Ann Lemmon, UNC General Administrationt
    • Broadly representative –includes both University and Community representation
    • Search committee chair should serve as the sole spokesperson for the search committee: vitally important to prevent misinformation and leaks
    • Committee Staff: The Search Committee should engage a secretary to support services, including work with the executive search firm consultant, keep minutes, maintain records, make arrangements for meetings and travel, and process budget requisitions. A detailed record of the work of the search committee will be kept.
    • Search consultant: Your efforts will be well served by the use of an experienced executive search consultant. The search consultant will contribute to the identification and recruitment of candidates and will provide “deep background” information to assist the search committee in narrowing the field of candidates. Veronica Biggins of Heidrick & Struggles has been recommended to support the search.
    • Budget: The search consultant and the search process will be financed from resources at NC A&T State University. All the needed resources will be available but we ask that you recognize that you have limited resources and spend them wisely.

  3. Search Process:
    • The goal of the search committee is to achieve a working consensus about all major aspects of the search process. You will need to:
      1. Conduct public forums that allow input into the job description from major university constituents, including students, faculty and staff, alumni, and the community.
      2. Develop the job description. The job description will guide you in identifying the criteria that will become the basis you will use in evaluating candidates.
      3. Develop a search and advertisement strategy. You must follow University guidelines to ensure an equal opportunity search. Veronica Biggins will provide you with advice and assistance, as will Ann Lemmon.
      4. Decide how you will narrow the pool of candidates. You need to come up with a working list that you want to interview in terms of goodness of fit to the needs of NC A&T and to your leadership statement.
    • The Committee must maintain confidentiality: Each member of the search committee must agree to honor a commitment to confidentiality. Such an agreement from each person is essential to ensure an effective search. Consideration of prospects, nominees and applicants must be done in a way that each member of this committee may speak candidly about a candidate’s qualifications without fear that their views will be made known outside this committee.

    • I would ask that three finalists be forwarded to me. I ask that they not be ranked. I also will ask the General Administration Council to interview the three finalists and provide their comments for my consideration.

      • A leader who will have the ability, desire, energy and vision to take NC A&T to the next level.

      • Someone who is a proven fund-raiser, and can expand on NC A&T’s strong tradition of Alumni giving.
