Federal Reserve Banks provide a great source of information about the U.S. banking and monetary system, as well as general economic conditions in the U.S.  Many of the banks have data and publications on-line.  Notable contributions specific to a particular bank are listed below the bank.

The Central Banking Resource Center is a global guide to central banking and central banks. It includes links to central banks, Treasuries and Ministries of Finance, central banking research and training institutes, multilateral monetary institutions, resources on monetary and central banking history, plus much more.

The U.S. Federal Reserve System

Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System

The Board of Governors site contains the Fed's Beige Book, Congressional testimony and speeches of Federal Reserve Board members, Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information, press releases, current interest rate information, and general information about the Federal Reserve system.  A PDF-format version of The Federal Reserve System: Purposes and Functions, a thorough overview of the Federal Reserve System, is available by chapter or as a single document.  In addition, the site contains a summary of Federal Reserve regulations.

Federal Reserve District Banks

The Federal Reserve district banks provide public information on the background and history of the Federal Reserve system, monetary policy, national and regional economic data, and consumer resources on economic topics.  Each of the district banks produces a variety of research and general interest publications on economic issues.

The Cleveland Fed provides two popular periodicals, the Economic Commentary and Economic Trends.

  • Economic Trends - The Cleveland Fed's monthly publication giving the latest national economic statistics and a summary of the current state of the economy.

  • The Role of the NY Federal Reserve Bank in the Federal Reserve System - Read about the role that the New York Federal Reserve Bank plays in the Federal Reserve system. Because of its location in one o f the world's main financial centers, the New York Fed carries out open market operations and foreign exchange operations for the Federal Reserve.

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco provides access to the Fed in Print, a searchable index of all economic research published within the Federal Reserve system from 1987-present.
