NONTRADITIONAL STUDENTS ORGANIZATION (NTSO)
The Nontraditional Students Organization (NTSO) is sponsored by the Office of Evening/Weekend Programs (EWP). NTSO is designed to provide support and advocacy to nontraditional students at North Carolina A&T State University. See Constitution and Bylaws below.
Nontraditional students (non-trads), sometimes referred to as "adult learners," make up an extremely diverse population. Those who feel they do not fit the "traditional college student" profile may be considered "non-trads," including undergraduate students who entered college several years after graduating from high school, are working full- or part-time to support themselves or their families, have dependents, are married or single, are serving in the armed forces, are veterans, or have other nontraditional circumstances. Nationally, nontraditional students comprise approximately 25% of the undergraduate population. Here at North Carolina A&T State University, they make up approximately 20% of the undergraduate student population. With their life experiences, nontraditional students often bring an interesting and exciting perspective to the classroom, college experience, and student service activities. Nontraditional students tend to provide great leadership and diversity to student organizations.
The benefits of membership in NTSO include, but are not limited to:
- receiving support from other non-trads for academic and social interaction
- gaining valuable leadership skills and experience
- helping to shape the organization's directions, initiatives, and services
- having your voice heard by the university community
- giving back to the community through service activities
- extending a hand to new non-trads who can benefit from your experiences
Membership is open to any degree-seeking NCA&T student who fulfills membership requirements (any undergraduate student who is 24 or older, or any student under 24 who considers him or herself a nontraditional student). With membership, you have the right to vote, hold office and chair a committee. Annual dues are $10 per academic year.
