Homecoming Parade

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Annual Homecoming Parade will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Parade entry fee is $150.00 (non-refundable) and includes one of the following:
•One float or vehicle
•A walking unit
•Two horses
•Two cycles
•Two go carts

The fee for an additional entry is $75.00 (non-refundable) based on availability.
Forms can be picked up from the Division of Student Affairs, Room 100 Murphy Hall or at http://www.ncat.edu/events/homecoming/2005/parade.html If you prefer, you may complete an application online. Applications must be returned to A&T’s Treasurer Office, 1601 E. Market Street, along with entry fee by Sept 9. You can pay by cash, money order or cashier’s check. In order to assure safety, all parade entrants are required to pass through A&T’s police security checkpoint on the morning of the parade.

Football Media Day/Fan Fest

North Carolina A&T's annual Football Media Day/Fan Fest will be held Saturday, August 20 at Aggie Stadium. The gates open at 11:30 a.m. The N.C. A&T Athletics family is inviting the community, Aggie fans and the media to meet the players who will add another glorious chapter to a rich football history at N.C. A&T.

The day includes games, popcorn and snow cones for the children. Fans will get a chance to meet some of the Aggie football players, and Aggies head coach George Small will sit down with members of the media to discuss the 2005 Aggies football team. At 4 p.m., the Aggies take the field at Aggie Stadium to participate in the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage.

Below is a schedule of the day's events:

1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Aggie cheerleaders perform/Players mingle with fans
1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Press Conference Begins (Bryan Fitness and Wellness

Selected players will accompany head coach George Small. All other players will be available upon request at 1:30 p.m.
1:30 p.m.-2 p.m. One-on-one player interviews
1:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m. Dudley High School cheerleaders perform
1:45 p.m.-2 p.m. Smith High School cheerleaders perform
4 p.m. Blue-Gold Scrimmage begins

Hornsby selected as 2005 Carnegie Scholar

Dr. Karen Hornsby, an assistant professor of philosophy in the department of history and interim director of the liberal studies program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, has been selected as a 2005 Carnegie Scholar. She is the first N.C. A&T faculty member to receive this honor.

The Carnegie Scholars Program brings together outstanding faculty from around the world that are committed to investigating and documenting significant teaching and learning issues, contributing to the thought and practice of scholarly teaching.

Carnegie Scholars work on campus-based scholarly investigations of teaching and learning issues, contributing to the thought and practice of scholarly teaching.

Carnegie Scholars work directly with The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for a full year, participating in two extending summer residencies and one shorter winter residency.

Hornsby's project will focus on determining what classroom pedagogies are effective at advancing the development of students’ ethical understanding and fostering life long-ethical reasoning skills.

A&T administrator presents at CASE Conference

David Hoard, vice chancellor for development and university relations at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical and State University, participated in the 2005 CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) Annual Assembly conference. The event was held in Miami Beach, Fla. July 15-17.

Hoard served as a panelist for the CASE Summit for Senior University System Executives session. His topic was “The Value of Speaking With One Voice.” Hoard’s discussion concentrated on the Focused Growth Initiative. He also talked about the enhanced infrastructure for enrollment growth, faculty enhancement and advancement programs. In addition, he discussed ways of providing an environment for significant major gift fundraising.

Other panelists were Elizabeth Dunn, senior associate vice chancellor for University Advancement, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and Michael Franco, vice chancellor for Advancement, North Carolina School of the Arts. Laura Foxx, associate vice president for Advancement, University of North Carolina Office of the President served as the facilitator.

Others from A&T attending the conference included Darlene East, Nettie Rowland, Mable Scott and Obrie Smith, president of A&T University Foundation Board.


A&T University Foundation to host conference

The event will be held Sept. 14-16 at the Greensboro Marriott downtown.

The conference will give participants a forum to discuss issues, share best practices and explore trends that advance and hinder the fund raising efforts of predominantly black higher education institutions involving their institutionally related foundations. In addition, there will be opportunities to network with experts and peers from across the country during a variety of work sessions and social activities.

At the conference, there will be sessions on the “Alignment and Governance Between Foundations and Universities,” “Privatized Housing/Real Estate” and “Asset Allocation, Best Practice Models” (investment policies).

Other topics include “MOUs – The Answer to our Relationship Issues” (including litigation and legal counsel), “Entrepreneurial Activities” and “Where Do We Go From Here.”

In addition, there will be roundtable discussions, a tailgate party and reception and tour of A&T’s campus. Participants will also attend the A&T vs. Hampton football game.

The conference planning committee members are David Hoard, executive director of A&T Foundation and vice chancellor for development and University Relations; Katey Assem, vice president for advancement and research, Fort Valley State University; Dr. Roy Cheatham, president, Lincoln University Foundation; Susan Hester, interim vice chancellor for institutional advancement, North Carolina Central University; Michael Hill, vice president for development and external relations, Lincoln University (PA); Lee Richardson, interim vice chancellor for institutional advancement, Winston-Salem State University and Paul Shelton, executive director, Norfolk State Foundation.

Brick Campaign
