CAMPUS HAPPENINGS:

 

Thomas Friedman, three-time Pulitzer Prize winner and author of The World is Flat lectured on his book April 5. His lecture was covered in the News & Record and Greensboro Business Journal.

The University ranks third out of 16 UNC schools in attracting research funding ($35.5 million in 2004-05), behind only NCSU and UNC.

The School of Business and Economics is accredited by AACSB International, the nation's premier accrediting agency, and is one of only four accredited accounting programs in NC, and one of only 160 in the nation.

N.C. A&T starts Pulitzer-like journalism award
The Institute for Advanced Journalism Studies (IFAJS) at N.C. A&T announced the creation of a major journalism award during the 30th anniversary convention of the National Association of Black Journalists. The award was named in honor of veteran columnist and television commentator Vernon Jarrett. It will be presented annually to broadcast and print journalists for outstanding coverage of people of African descent and the issues that impact their lives.

 
 
A&T's Farm attracted one of only three National Technology Support Centers and a Remote Sensing Lab funded by the U.S.D.A.'s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). NRCS selected Greensboro as the site for the East Region, which will serve 24 states and the Caribbean.
 
 
Irwin Belk Track, A&T’s new Olympic quality track and field facility is certified for national and international track and field meets, and is the location of the 2006 Nike Outdoor Championships, the top high school track meet in the country on June 16-17. A&T also hosted the Division I NCAA East Regional Championships.
 
• A&T qualified for the high research activity (doctorate-granting institutions) category by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching - see classifications. A&T is one of only a handful of HBCUs to qualify for this category, Carnegie's second highest grouping.
