About the School of Nursing:

Established in 1953, A&T’s School of Nursing offers a program leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. It was first accredited in 1971 by the National League for Nursing. The BSN degree program prepares graduates for nursing licensure and beginning practice in a variety of health care settings.

A severe international nursing shortage will be well served by growth in the School of Nursing. In addition to academic scholarship, the program encompasses every aspect of professionalism. Caring, dedication, commitment and volunteerism are emphasized as essential elements of the curriculum, as are moral and ethical dimensions of nursing.

A nurturing environment is one of the most attractive features of studying nursing at North Carolina A&T. Admitted students have access to a full-time counselor, learning laboratories and computer assistance in order to develop nursing, test-taking and study skills.

Nursing students at North Carolina A&T also receive exposure to the interdisciplinary general education afforded all A&T students. The school is organized into lower and upper divisions. The first two academic years or lower division of the program encompass core requirements of the University and foundation courses for the major. The upper division is largely devoted to nursing courses.

The globalization of A&T’s curriculum also has touched the School of Nursing. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 for instance, groups of nursing students traveled to Barbados where they participated in hospital and community care and received hands on experience with cross-cultural care. Other students traveled to Africa, Sweden and Australia.
