The seeds of the alumni association
of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
were actually sown when the first graduating class received
their B. S. degree from what was known then as the Agricultural
and Mechanical College for the Colored Race in the spring
of 1899. The class of seven young dedicated men, with "No
Steps Backward" as their motto, used their training to
earn a living as well as to supply leadership for the black
community.
Today, we stand as a living testimony to the
continuous and highly visible leadership they provided their
communities and the success they realized in their professions.
